What is VESDA®?
VESDA® stands for Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus and is an advanced laser-based aspirating smoke detection technology.
For over three decades, VESDA® has redefined fire safety, delivering detection capabilities far beyond conventional fire alarms. Trusted worldwide, VESDA® has a proven global reputation and holds more certifications than any other aspirating smoke detector.
While VESDA® is the brand name of a specific product range, it has become synonymous with aspirating smoke detection technology – so much so that air sampling systems from other manufacturers are often collectively referred to as “VESDA”.
How do VESDA® systems work?

VESDA® systems use an aspirator (the process of sucking in air) to draw samples of air from a protected area. These air samples are continuously collected through a network of air sampling pipes and fittings which are installed throughout a building.

The air sampling pipe network connects to a VESDA® detector, and within the detector is a vacuum detection chamber which uses a laser to analyse and sample the air to identify the earliest signs of combustion – often long before heat or visible flames are present.

If smoke particles are detected, the system can be configured to provide up to four different levels of alarm, offering better flexibility to false alarm management. This also gives occupants added time to evacuate.
